City
Might Need Slot Machines to Survive
The mayor
of Toronto is considering bringing in a
casino to help them out of a financial
crisis. Mayor David Miller, as well as
several other Toronto councilors are
considering the idea that slot machines
might not be enough to help them out,
and that a full scale casino at their
Woodbine Racetrack might be just the
thing their city needs. But they want a
large portion of the revenues from any
of the table games, and the provincial
government thinks that they get enough
money already from the existing slot
machines.
Miller said that a casino would be great
at Woodbine if the city gets the money,
but because they already have slot
machines that is the only way they would
consider it. He says that if the table
games revenue goes the way of the slot
machine revenue, to the province, then
he is not interested.
Councilor Adrian Heaps agrees with
Miller and says that if the casino would
solely benefit Toronto he would vote for
it, otherwise they can keep sending on
the slot machine revenues because that
is all they will have to offer. The
mayor has been trying to find more ways
to bring in revenue to the city, so he
said that by adding table games to the
slot machines it might solve their
problems, but only if they keep the
revenue.
Other councilors do not think that a
casino is a good idea, however. They
think that other places have table games
they can go there if that is what they
want, but if they want slot machines,
they will come to Toronto. They think
that the addition of a full scale casino
will change the aesthetic of Toronto,
and that is something no one wants to
see.
