George City Council Approves Slot
Machines
The
Prince George City Council approved a
request for additional slot machines
from the Treasure Cove Casino. After
three hours of listening to the pros and
cons of the slot machine addition, the
council felt it was in the best interest
of both the city and the casino to get
the additional slot machines and the
revenue that would come with them.
The addition of the slot machines would
be bringing in jobs – both permanent in
the casino and temporary construction
jobs, and it would bring in around $1
million in slot machine revenue for the
area. Most of the people who had sent in
letters or showed up were in support of
the additional slot machines, and among
them were residents that lived near the
existing slot machine casino.
John Major, owner of the Treasure Cove
said that the additional slot machines
will fill a need, as he has more clients
than the existing slot machines can
handle now. He said that by adding more
slot machines they would bring in more
clients and thus more tourism for the
area. He said that he supports downtown,
and the addition of the slot machines
would only make that easier to do.
He said he would be adding the new show
lounge before he added the slot
machines, plus he had a list of things
that he would be doing for the area as
well. He would support a performing arts
center, he would be building a new
soundproof wall for neighbors as well as
planting them trees, and he would be
adding a new Responsible Gambling
Information Center to the casino as well
to get those that need it help.
