Rally in
Kanawha County
Come
August 11th, Kanawha County voters will
get to decide whether or not table games
will join the existing slot machines at
the track within their county. Four
counties in West Virginia get to vote on
the addition of table games, and Kanawha
County is the last to do so.
Those opposed to the games are just
starting to heat things up as they fight
to keep them from being legalized. A
rally was held this weekend, sponsored
by the Dunbar Ministerial Association,
in order to rally opponents to the
anti-table games cause. Hundreds of
those that are opposed to the table
games appeared at the rally.
It was held Sunday evening at the
Christ’s Church United Methodist and the
association was hoping to garner support
for the opposition to the legalization
of table games. They have joined forces
with several other congregations
throughout the Kanawha Valley.
Reverend Dr. Okey Harless of the Dunbar
Ministerial Association said that he
thought that they were not the only ones
concerned with the upcoming vote. He
thought that the gaming industry was
worried as well. He said he bases this
on the “sudden surge” of promotions and
advertising that they have been pushing
as of late. He thinks that they have a
real chance of defeating the table games
and they won’t rest until the vote is
over.
