Gambling Industry Out of Control
According
to the daily Mlada fronta Dnes, the
Czech gambling industry is out of
control. Politicians, laws, officials,
all of the checks and balances that have
been put in place for the industry have
failed to keep it in check. Regulation
of gambling and the laws that limit
expansion have failed to stop them.
Czechs are easily the biggest gamblers
in Europe, something that is not a
surprise to this slot machine addicted
country. This year they expect sales of
their gambling industry to hit 100
billion crowns from their slot machines.
Czechs feel that they are richer now
than they have been in the past, so much
richer in fact that they feel they can
spend money on anything they want,
including slot machines.
According to a recent study that the
Swiss Institute of Comparative law for
the European Commission did, the only
people who spend more money on gambling
than the Czechs are the Portuguese and
the Danes. This comes as a slight
surprise to the Czechs, as many of them
thought that they played the slot
machines more than the rest of them.
One of the biggest problems is that
there are slot machines everywhere. The
country has more than 50,000 slot
machines, and more than 100 casinos –
and this doesn’t include the lottery.
Considering their population size, that
really is a lot of slot machines for
their small country.
The country is excited that they are
getting more slot machines as well, some
of the top modern slot machines that
Vegas has. They have about 3,000 of
these officially registered slot
machines in the Czech Republic, and
hundreds more of these same slot
machines are to be installed.
