Machines and Gambling for Tourists
With so
many states and countries doing so well
with legalizing slot machines and
gambling, it is no wonder that others
are watching to see if they should do it
as well. They see the possible revenue
that can come from the slot machines,
and they see the possibilities of
increasing tourism by adding the slot
machines to their line up of
attractions.
Now some in Jamaica think that it might
be time that they join in on the slot
machine fun. They look at those areas in
the Caribbean that already offer slot
machines and gambling such as Aruba,
Bahamas, Curacao, Puerto Rico and St.
Maarten. There are 16 different places
in the Caribbean that offer gambling and
experts say that they are recovering
much faster than those areas that do not
offer it.
They are getting more of the tourist
dollar in all of their areas, as well as
the slot machines and gambling. Some of
the places where the slot machines are
legal do not allow their own citizens to
gamble, that it is only for those on
vacation. This is an excellent way of
keeping their own citizens from
developing a dependency on slot
machines.
Some allow their citizens to
participate, and say that the number of
people who gamble on their slot machines
that are local make up a large portion
of their revenue. Some say that if they
allow gambling they will end up like
Cuba, with corrupt governments running
the slot machine and gambling industry.
However, others say that it is not a
fair comparison because their
governments were already corrupt and
slot machines had nothing to do with it.
However you look at it, slot machines
and gambling could bring in much needed
revenue for many countries, Jamaica
being just one of them. It may be
something they want to give serious
consideration to.
