People
Love the WSOP
Even with
the Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act (UIGEA), people still
love to gamble online. They figure they
aren’t breaking any rules because it is
not actually illegal to gamble on the
internet. It is illegal for those people
who are processing your payments on the
internet, so although it is kind of the
same thing it isn’t.
However, when it comes to an event like
the World Series of Poker, you can bet
that there will be lots of gambling
going on. America is fascinated with the
WSOP, and with nine players left
competing for the top spot, everyone
wants to get a piece of the action – and
place their bets on who will walk away
with the $8 million prize.
Because it seems like poker tournaments
are pretty much everywhere these days,
many thought that shows like the WSOP’s
final tournament would not draw a huge
following. They would be incorrect in
that assumption. The WSOP attracts
thousands upon thousands of viewers as
well as sponsors and broadcasters all
hoping to get their piece of poker pie.
The WSOP saw 54,000 registrants this
year, a 6,000 registration increase from
48,000 last year. Out of those
registrants, 6,358 make it to the final
event, and out of those only 9 make it
to the final day. One of them will walk
away with the top prize, so your chances
of winning the whole kit and caboodle
actually decrease each year.
