Wichita Greyhound Park Getting Slot
Machines
The
Kansas Lottery Commission has authorized
800 slot machines at the Wichita
Greyhound Park. The authorization for
the slot machines is dependent upon
voter approval, but many think that it
is a done deal already. They say that
many people in Wichita have been asking
for slot machines, so voter approval is
likely.
The commission would be responsible for
establishing the rules and regulations
for the slot machines at the tracks as
well. However, before they can start
ordering the slot machines, the voters
will get a referendum on the question to
vote for on August 7th.
Earlier this year, the Legislature
agreed to allow slot machines at the
tracks, and casinos in four areas of the
state. There will be a total of 2,800
slot machines among the tracks. Six
hundred of those slot machines will have
to wait until the casinos are in place.
Wyandotte County had just approved
casino gambling in June, so they got an
extension on the slot machine
application process as the commission
extended the deadline 90 days so they
could get in their application.
The Woodlands track in Kansas City,
Kansas, has also been approved pending
the vote for 800 slot machines. Camptown
Greyhound Park in Frontenac was approved
for 600 slot machines.
