Still
Fighting Over Slot Machines
Operation
All Bets Are Off is still going full
speed, but some are asking why they get
to keep harassing businesses when there
is no evidence to back them up. The fact
of the matter is that as far as the
Attorney General’s Office is concerned,
the machines in question are slot
machines, but the courts seem to be
wondering if that is really fact or just
supposition.
State AG has said that video gaming
machines are illegal as they fulfill all
of the requirements to be considered
slot machines – and they are illegal in
the state. On Friday, the task force
assigned to crack down on the illegal
machines made ten more raids of
businesses, just as in the past, only
this time no slot machines were seized.
According to their fearless leader –
they are simply obtaining evidence.
METRICH Commander Lt. Dino Sgambellone
said that the statute is clear, they are
slot machines and they are illegal. He
says that they are not making a judgment
on gambling or on the machines; they are
simply following the letter of the law.
They say that the machines that are
being used are not skill based machines,
which is the only thing that would make
them legal. They are slot machines pure
and simple – a fact that they have been
fighting for about two years now.
Patrons that arrived at the businesses
as the raid was taking place insisted
that there was nothing illegal going on
– that they weren’t slot machines. They
wanted to know why they were going after
something as harmless as this, when they
could be going after real criminals.
