Grants
for Illegal Slot Machines Only
The state
of Pennsylvania’s Gaming Control Board
has been handing out grants to combat
illegal slot machines that are located
within the state. They want the grants
used to combat the spread of illegal
slot machines and are handing them out
to local law enforcement so that they
have the means to do so.
However, they seem to be having some
difficulties in identifying what those
grants are for. The Chairman of the PA
Gaming Control Board, Mary DiGiacomo
Colins made an announcement today
stating that using the grants for any
other purpose would not be legal.
The grants are to be used to prevent the
unlawful operation of slot machines in
the Commonwealth and to crack down on
those that are currently running the
machines. They can also be used to
educate the public so that they know
what constitutes an illegal slot machine
and why it is in their best interest to
let them know when they come across one.
They want to be clear that they are to
be used for slot machines only, and not
for going after any other form of
gambling – such as illegal poker games
and such. Colins said that contrary to
recent reports, the monies are not being
used by the Liquor Control Enforcement
to crackdown on any “small games of
chance violations at private clubs.”
