Ridley
Township Bar Raid
A
Delaware County bar was the scene of a
police raid yesterday, and patrons were
shocked to be a part of it. Ten
uniformed Pennsylvania State Police
officers stormed the Ridley Township bar
and removed slot machines that were
allegedly operating illegally.
The police came into Della Polla’s
Family Tavern, located on MacDade
Boulevard, in an attempt to crack down
on illegal slot machine gambling. They
took the two machines with them that
were in question, as well as $15,000.
According to Sergeant William N. LaTorre,
no charges have been filed as of yet.
However, he did say that they were in
the process of continuing to investigate
the matter. It can only be assumed that
Carmen Della Torra, Jr., as one of the
bar owners, is the main focus of that
investigation.
Delaware County was using part of the
money that they had received from the
Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to
crack down on illegal slot machine
gambling in their state. Any slot
machine found to be giving cash payouts
is in fact an illegal machine and will
be confiscated under the Gaming Act of
2007.
The Delaware County District Attorney
George Hurchalla said that they are
working to remove all illegal slot
machines from the state as they “pose
serious problems for our community.”
Hurchalla went on to say that illegal
activities usually occur around these
sorts of establishments.
