State
Grant For Illegal Slot Machines
Luzerne
County District Attorney Jackie Musto
Carroll says that the new grant that
they received will be used for
education. The Pennsylvania Gaming
Control Board has given them $52,630 for
them to use in regards to slot machines
– and they will be using theirs to
advertise and educate the public.
Carroll says that many people think that
all slot machines in the state are legal
now that the law was passed, but this
simply is not true. There are many
illegal slot machines still in the
state, and they need to let residents
know how to tell the difference.
They say that those slot machines that
you find in the casinos are the only
legal ones, and those found anywhere
else are not. Residents are encouraged
to not play those illegal slot machines
as the money does not go to the state
and therefore does not help with any of
the programs that were set up – like
education or property tax relief.
Instead, the money from those illegal
slot machines goes to the tavern owner,
or the person who owns the location
where they are. The PA Gaming Control
Board has been issuing grants across the
state to try to enforce and prevent the
unlawful operation of slot machines.
The county says that because they have a
casino, they are eligible for several
grants and they are going to look into
them to see what is being offered and
what they might be able to get to help
them keep the illegal machines off the
streets.
