You Can’t Trick a Slot Machine

People ask me all the time – you write about slot machines, what can you tell me that will help me? My standard answer is always – you will lose. There will always be that book or website that gives you tips on how to “trick” the slot machines so that that they pay out. This never happens. You can’t trick a slot machine – they are computers.

No matter what people might think, slot machines are there to make the casinos money. They are the biggest money maker for the casino for a reason – they take more than they give. Now this might seem an anomaly – as everyone has heard a story of someone who has hit it big for millions of dollars – they are the exception to the rule.

For most people playing the slot machine you will lose more than you get back. The American Gaming Association published a pamphlet about gaming a few years ago to try and dispel some of the myths about slot machines.

They said, very clearly, that the house always has the “statistical advantage in every play of the game, even against a skillful player.” Think about it, if they aren’t making money – and lots of it – why would they offer the game? There is absolutely no reason for them to offer a game that they would lose money at, or even break even. It doesn’t make sense.
