IGT Lay Offs
Just a few months ago
everyone was talking about how some of
the biggest names in slot machines were
having problems but that International
Game Technology seemed to be doing well
for themselves. The slot machine
manufacturer seemed to diversify enough
that they didn’t have to worry about the
economy and while everyone else was
scrambling they seemed to be playing it
cool.
However, it seems underneath it all they
were having the same problems as
everyone else is. The slot machine
manufacturer has been quietly laying off
people. Earlier today the company
announced that they were laying off 161
employees from their domestic and
international work force.
The slot machine manufacturer is the
largest private employer in the county
and if they are having problems that
equate to massive lay offs then the
county could be in big trouble. If they
end up closing that location thousands
of people will be out of jobs. As they
let go more people, the questions were
invariably rising, what will the county
do without them for an employer?
They also let go about 300 employees in
Reno last November, and another 500
globally around the same time. Then in
January they let go 200 more people. The
slot machine company is simply trying to
be more efficient, and they say that
right now part of their problem is
having too many employees. They did not
say if there would be more coming, but
one can be assured that with a pattern
like this that there probably will be.
