What is the
Slot Machine Industry Doing?
Here is a
question that many people are starting
to wonder – with all of the slot
machines out there in the world why
there aren’t Energy Star slot machines?
Consider just for a moment the amount of
electricity used by all those millions
of slot machines in the world and you
could have one of the cures for global
warming right there!
Some might say that it is the
government’s responsibility to ensure
that all slot machines are energy
efficient, while others feel that it is
up to the manufacturers. Either way, no
one is looking into it, and many
environmentalists want to know why.
They say that the fact that the casinos
are a billion dollar industry alone
means that they should be looking into
the effect that their slot machines are
having on the ozone layer. Not only
that, but the fact that Las Vegas itself
is visible from outer space should tell
you something about the amount of
electricity being expanded. Is it simply
the case where in Las Vegas people don’t
want to think about the real world –
they only want to escape reality? This
is genuinely an argument for not doing
anything, but there is so much that they
could be doing it is a crime that
nothing has been done before.
Harrah’s has actually branded their
environmental practices under the term
CodeGreen – but it has more to do with
how they run their day to day
operations, not necessarily the amount
of energy that their slot machines are
sucking up. As a nation we are embracing
the Energy Star brand for our homes, our
washers and dryers, etc. – and the slot
machine industry can’t take similar
strides?
