Kentucky Rally
for Slot Machines
While those in
Ohio continue to fight against bringing
in slot machines, the folks over in
Kentucky keep fighting to bring them in.
Residents are furious that they have not
been allowed slot machines at their race
tracks and they showed up in full to let
their legislators know.
More than 900 people showed up at a
rally against their state senators
because of their anger over slot
machines. They were upset that their
senators rejected a bill that would have
allowed an expansion of gambling of slot
machines at the Kentucky horse tracks.
They said that they had been fighting to
get it approved as their tracks are
dying from the competition because they
don’t have slot machines and the other
states’ do.
They now have to try to get their Senate
Republicans to support the bill, or
they’ve got to get rid of their Senators
– according to several of those in the
crowd. They say that if their
representatives aren’t going to listen
to them and bring in slot machines then
they aren’t going to be their
representatives. They claim that come
Election Day some of these people might
just find themselves on the Unemployment
Line.
Governor Steve Beshear was at that rally
as he wants to see the slot machines
legalized as well. The House approved
the bill, but the Senate did not,
leaving them in the cold. Senate
President David Williams, who is against
slot machines at the tracks said that it
would not have passed had it been
allowed to go to a floor vote, but
Beshear disagreed with him.
