Slot Machine
Makers Gambling on US
Any time that a state
decides to bring in slot machines, the
manufacturers and designers of those
slot machines jump for joy because they
know that they are going to most likely
get a nice boost in their revenue. With
both Ohio and Illinois having already
passed bills that would allow slot
machines and Massachusetts looking like
they might be getting close, they have
reason to celebrate.
The two states alone could be looking at
somewhere over 65,000 slot machines, and
who knows how many Massachusetts might
bring in if they allow it. The big three
slot machine companies – WMS Industries,
Bally Technologies, Inc., and
International Game Technology, are all
chomping at the bit to see how much of
the pie they are going to get.
There are currently somewhere around
940,000 slot machines in the US, and
that number is constantly growing and
changing. Experts say that many states
turn to slot machines because they are
so behind in their budgets. They can’t
figure out how to cut spending so
instead they turn to slot machines to
make up for it.
Each state seeks varying ways of adding
cash to their revenue flow – and one by
one they turn to slot machines to do it.
Not all residents are pleased with the
gambling expansions, but they have to
admit that they do bring in money. Each
of the states is looking at bringing in
thousands of slot machines to fix their
short falls, but many want to know where
that money is going to come from and how
big of an impact it is going to have on
them.
