Smyrna’s Illegal Slot Machines

Smyrna has been hiding a dirty little secret – but now it is out in the open. They have been the home to an illegal slot machine operation, and several people have been arrested and charged in connection with the illegal gambling ring.
 
Police had received a tip that there were several illegal slot machine gambling establishments so they went in to check it out. For two and a half months police ran an undercover operation on the locations, which culminated in the arrest of several people. They found that there were illegal slot machines as well as an illegal bootleg CD and DVD operation going on.
 
They investigated and went inside the operations during their business hours to see if in fact they were running illegal slot machines. They were able to play illegal slot machines at four of the locations that they went into. The officers played the slot machines and were given cash payouts and lottery tickets for their winnings – which of course is illegal in the state.
 
They took more than $56,000 in winnings from the locations, and the clerks that did the actual paying out were arrested and charged with violating state gambling laws. The slot machines were to be removed from the locations within 10 days – and they were immediately turned off. Each of the owners has been charged as well, and they are facing felony charges of criminal reproduction of recorded material for transfer, sale, distribution and/or circulation. Police took more than two thousand CD’s and more than one hundred DVDs with them.
