Arlington Park Getting Millions
With the
recent ruling from the Illinois Supreme
Court, tracks such as Arlington Park are
going to be receiving millions of
dollars. This money is to be used for
supplementing purses as well as repairs
for the tracks. The Supreme Court upheld
a law that would force the riverboats to
pay the tracks a portion of their slot
machine proceeds.
The state’s court upheld a 2006 law that
stated that the casinos in Aurora, Elgin
and Joliet were to send money to help
the tracks keep their doors open.
However, for the past two years the
casinos have been fighting the law and
the money has been sitting in a bank
account.
However, not anymore. There is roughly
$80 million sitting in that account and
it will be split among the tracks.
Arlington Park is obviously one of those
tracks that will be getting slot machine
revenue from the account.
Arlington Park was supposed to be
getting a little more than $10 million a
year in slot machine proceeds, when the
deal was approved. However, that was
more than two years ago and the track
has not seen a dime from it since. But
now that the track will be getting their
share of the money, they have not said
exactly what they will be doing with the
money besides increasing winnings.
Part of that money will go to
improvements at the track, but for now
they don’t know exactly how much. The
ruling was a timely one as it came two
days after the tax expired.
