Horse
Tracks are Planning on Slot Machines
Indiana
has a lot riding on the new slot machine
casinos that they are bringing into
their tracks. Each of the casinos that
they are opening will have slot machines
for those not quite into the horse
racing, and horse racing for those that
aren’t interested in slot machines.
But with Hoosier Park’s new slot machine
casino opening in Anderson, the state is
waiting to see just how well it does.
They have estimated that the majority of
their patrons will come from Fort Wayne
and Indianapolis. State casino numbers
are down, so they are hoping that the
new casino will draw in more players and
thus higher numbers.
The manager of gaming for Hoosier Park,
Jim Brown, says that the overall
experience of horse racing and the slot
machines added to the dining options
that they will have will be more than
enough to bring in the players. He says
that being only a short drive away is a
big plus as well.
They know that heading out to Vegas or
Atlantic City has become cost
prohibitive, and are planning on
building on that to bring in more slot
machine players. They say that they
“have to make them want to visit” and
because of that thought they are
offering more than 2,000 slot machines
in a 92,000 sq ft casino.
This does not mean that they are
ignorant of the fact that there are much
larger casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic
City – but they know that if they hand
them enough perks they will be able to
draw them in.
