Join Anti Slot Machine Fray
The group
known as Marylanders United to Stop
Slots has gotten support from more
people as they go on their way. Two Anne
Arundel County councilmen have joined
the campaign to try and show residents
that slot machines are not in their best
interest. They don’t want to see
gambling at Laurel Park and have thus
joined the group to get their support in
keeping slot machines out.
Democratic Councilmen Joshua J. Cohen of
Annapolis and G. James Benoit of
Crownsville joined the group on their
third stop on their campaign run against
slot machines. They are concerned with
how slot machines would impact the
quality of life in their county.
They know that their county is looking
to get somewhere around 4,700 slot
machines if the referendum is approved
in November. With those figures, they
are looking at basically a third of the
state’s slot machines sitting in their
own backyard.
The concern is the location for them.
They agree that slot machines are the
crack cocaine of gambling and they don’t
want to see their residents fall prey to
the temptation that gambling brings.
They don’t want them in their community
right by their neighborhoods.
