Why So
Many?
With New
Hampshire looking to add 13,000 slot
machines to their state, many are
wondering why they need so many of them.
They say that this number of slot
machines is overkill for their state and
for their residents and by adding them
into the state in such a large quantity
they are asking for trouble. They say
that the state would have only 980 fewer
slot machines than North America’s two
largest casinos – the Mohegan Sun and
Foxwoods in Connecticut. What gives?
Well, the state knows that it has to
balance their budget, and slot machines
are the key to that. The sate budget
that passed is contingent on the slot
machines living up to their end of the
deal. Slot machines are the biggest
money maker when it comes to gambling,
just ask the casinos. They always have
more slot machines than anything else
because they are able to separate
players from their money in a way that
no other gambling game can.
Slot machines are developed so that they
are taking your money and not only are
they taking your money but they are
tricking you into giving them more of
it. There is a study that shows that if
you give players what are called “near
misses” 30% of the time that they are
playing, they will continue to come back
for more. Programmers and developers of
slot machines know that this is the way
to tease them back to the game.
Slot machines are programmed to hook you
into an addictive behavior and they
work. This means millions of dollars for
the casino, and in this case, millions
of dollars in slot machine revenue for
the state of New Hampshire. However,
that money has to come from somewhere
and although they say that they will be
pulling in from other states, the fact
of the matter is that a lot of that
money will be coming in from residents
as well.
