Add Tables and Eliminate Gambling
Parlors
With
all the talk of adding table games to
the existing slot machines, some think
that West Virginia should be looking at
ways to change the system instead of add
to it. They aren’t saying not to add the
table games, but to replace the mini
casinos with them instead.
The racetracks have been trying for
years to get table games added to the
slot machines that the state already
has. However, year after year the
proposals have been rejected as voters
and legislators are not interested in
expanding gambling. But now the state
says that they need table games to
supplement the slot machines in the
state. Because other states are adding
slot machines, West Virginia is afraid
that they will start losing their slot
machine revenue – revenue that they have
come to depend upon. If that revenue
starts to drop, the residents of West
Virginia are going to be looking at some
shortages.
So why not change the rules somewhat and
give the racetracks their table games,
while removing some of the more
unsightly parts of gambling. Many have
wanted to see the mini-casinos that the
state has allowed to go away. The corner
slot machines are there just to take
money from those that can truly least
afford it, so why not rid the state of
them?
Many think that the state has a great
opportunity to do some good and get rid
of the corner slot machines, while
bringing in the table games to
supplement the lost income. The state
Legislature just has to agree to it.
