Alberta Trying to Decide on Online Slot
Machines
There
is a rumor floating about that the
Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission is
considering creating online gambling
websites. They hired Marilyn
Carlyle-Helms and her commission to
study how Albertans feel about online
slot machines, poker, blackjack, or
sports betting. Carlyle-Helms says that
she and her team are working “slow and
steady” on the concept, but can not give
more information at this time.
She says that the media has overplayed
her comments and the situation to say
that Alberta is making a decision soon
regarding online slot machines, etc. She
says they are just looking into it to
see where people stand regarding the
machines. They are trying to get their
residents’ opinions on the move before
they do anything.
The polls that they are currently
running will be focusing on poker, bingo
and blackjack, and they expect to have
those figures in March at some point.
However, many people are not excited
about the idea of additional revenue –
even if it would be roughly $1.19
billion in US dollars. They say that
governments all around the world are
using slot machines and gambling to fill
their coffers, and at the expense of
their residents. They say that adding
online gambling would be one of the
biggest mistakes they could make.
