Casinos are a Bad Idea
Because of Pennsylvania law and the
Pennsylvania Gaming Board have spent a
lot of time deciding where the slot
machines and their casinos should end
up. However, many feel that they might
have spent a little more time in the
details. There is a feeling of
incompleteness for many as they felt
table games should have been included in
the casinos. Many say that slot machines
just aren’t enough to bring in tourists.
There will be the initial group that
comes to see what all the fuss is about,
but for the most part, anyone who has a
car and is in the general vicinity might
as well just go for an hour drive and
get all of the perks that the Atlantic
City casinos have – including table
games.
Both Foxwoods and SugarHouse are going
to be bringing in slot machines, but
they are not allowed to bring in table
games - literally thousands of slot
machines without a table in sight. It
isn’t the casinos’ fault, they wanted
table games, they just aren’t allowed
them. Many are concerned that the
presentations that they gave talking
about all the “economic value” that they
are going to bring in will not actually
happen without the table games.
SugarHouse has said that they will bring
in 1,300 jobs – but how is that
possible? They said they will also bring
in $100 million to the city – but again,
without table games these promises seem
to be rather empty. Considering their
relative closeness to Atlantic City, and
the fact that the area they are in
already has a terrible traffic problem
and the casinos will only add more
traffic – it does not seem likely that
the casinos will bring in what they have
promised when they don’t have the draw.
