Catskills Casino Will Affect
Wilkes-Barre’s Slot Machines
With
the state of New York’s Governor giving
the go ahead on the casino planned for
the Catskills, people in Pennsylvania
are starting to get a little nervous.
They know that the amount of money that
will be coming into the new casino will
definitely take away from the slot
machine revenue that the Wilkes-Barre
casino has been getting.
The Catskills will probably be
completely revitalized by the new casino
– it is going to have slot machines,
blackjack, poker, you name it. The
Pennsylvania casino is not allowed table
games so they only have slot machines to
offer. With NY’s governor finally giving
the go-ahead on a $600 million casino at
Monticello, PA is worried that it will
have a significant impact on their
Northeastern casinos.
Many think that with the state of NY
putting table games so close to PA’s
borders that it will just be a matter of
time now before PA legalizes table games
as well. They say the draw from their
casinos to the Catskills will be just
too great for them to survive unless
they are on an equal playing field.
It seems that if Pennsylvania wants to
stay competitive, they are going to have
to legalize them, which makes many
uneasy. They say they legalized slot
machines, and then you pushed for table
games and you got those, what’s next?
However, experts say that if you want to
compete you have to have the same
amenities as the other resorts, and
right now they don’t. They say even as
they try to decide, West Virginia is in
the process of legalizing table games as
well, so there will go more of their
slot machine revenue.
