Deal
Reached with Knapp
Daniel L. Knapp
was ready to go to trial to defend his
slot machines that the police had tried
to take, and then somehow he came to an
agreement with the state's Assistant
District Attorney and now it does not
seem that Knapp will face criminal
charges. He will still have to appear in
court, but now that he has shown a
willingness to work with the government,
many feel that things won't be so bad
for him.
Knapp owns the
Sandcastle Lounge, which police raided
last year in a move that netted them 38
slot machines from various
establishments, but not Knapp's. Knapp
refused to surrender his slot machines
to the police, which is why he is facing
criminal charges. However, he has now
reached a deal with the Assistant DA
that will include giving up the illegal
slot machines as well as their contents.
He must also
allow the police to search his place of
business, and if that happens and they
find more illegal slot machines, he will
have to relinquish them as well as face
criminal charges. He is also to put a
stop to all illegal activity
immediately. If Knapp fails to adhere to
the agreement he will face possible jail
time in addition to the seizure of his
slot machines.
The Assistant
DA says he has no reason to believe that
Knapp won't adhere to the letter of the
agreement.
