Fair Grounds Fighting for Slot Machines
The
Fair Grounds Race Course is trying to
open a slot machine casino, but they are
a little behind schedule. The racetrack
has needed the slot machine revenue, but
was held up by a little storm called
Hurricane Katrina.
When Hurricane Katrina came whipping
through, the plans that they had for
opening their slot machine casino were
pushed back – as many were affected by
the storm. They had originally planned
on building a permanent slot machine
casino, and it was supposed to break
ground in September of 2005.
The slot machine casino will be 30,000
square feet for the permanent structure,
with the temporary structure being
smaller. They are now planning on
building a temporary slot machine only
casino this fall, so that they can start
getting some revenue in to put towards
the building of the permanent structure.
They are planning on starting
construction on the permanent slot
machine casino this summer. They hope to
have it completed by Thanksgiving of
2008.
