Nevada Gaming Overhaul
With
a new report out that tells how the
gaming industry in Nevada can be
improved, many are looking to the
document to see how they can improve
gambling in the state. Gaming Control
Board Chairman Dennis Neilander says
that the board is always open to new
ideas as to how they might change the
system to make it more fruitful for all.
However, he says, some of the
suggestions that the committee came up
with go against the premises of Nevada’s
Gaming Act and they have to abide by
that rule. He said that he agrees that
their standards are high, but feels that
it is a good thing because it shows that
they care and they maintain the public’s
confidence in the job that they do.
One of the suggestions was that the slot
machines could be put directly on the
gaming floor, instead of going to the
Gaming Control Board’s testing
laboratory first. Neilander says that
this is just a bad idea because trying
to fix a game already on the floor that
may have a problem is not ethical. He
says that people will be playing those
games and if they aren’t working
properly, and then being fixed, they
will lose the confidence that the public
has in them.
The report claims that there is too big
of a hold up waiting for these slot
machines to pass regulations, and
because it takes so long new technology
is being unveiled at tribal casinos
because they don’t have the high
standards that Nevada has. They say
because of this California can bring in
slot machine players by having the
latest games available first. Neilander
says they can work on getting slot
machines through faster, but they cannot
remove the process all together.
