Sale of Lottery Will Lead to Gambling
It is
legal to play the lottery in Texas, but
slot machines and table game are
strictly hands off. If you want to play
the slot machines or table games, you
have to go across the state line to one
of their neighbors to play. However,
some fear that this is about to change,
and that slot machines may end up
getting legalized in the state.
The governor of Texas has decided that
it is in their best interests to sell
the Texas Lottery to a private company –
which would mean less hassle for the
state and more revenue for them as well.
However, residents want to know how it
will affect them and the education
system.
The idea that the state does not allow
slot machines is a big issue for many,
as they fear that if someone is buying
the lottery for as much money as they
have been talking about (somewhere
around $14 billion), they are going to
expect to be able to add slot machines
to the state. They also want to ensure
that the annual $1 billion payments to
public education won’t stop with someone
else running the show.
The Governor says that the residents
have nothing to worry about, and that
the amount of money raised from the sale
of the lottery would be more than enough
to fund cancer research, health
insurance, and education. But residents
say that he is not addressing the idea
of them adding slot machines, especially
since many proposals that have already
come across the governor’s desk are
suggesting just that.
