New Hampshire Residents Like Their
Casinos (Part II)
The
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth
Center for Policy Analysis has done a
survey to see the gambling habits of
several states, and how those habits
translate to attitudes as to the
legalization of slot machines in their
states.
The survey continued on saying that 89%
of New Hampshire residents made $45,000
or more a year, which includes 39% who
made over $75,000. This amount was
higher than the other states’ numbers as
well, although Massachusetts only showed
6% of their residents having an income
under $25,000.
How they spend their money is just as
important, says the survey. New
Hampshire residents like to spend their
money on the slot machines, but also on
those things that make it a true
vacation – such as lodging, food, retail
and other entertainment. The survey
showed that residents like to make it a
gambling destination, spending more time
there than the other states do as a
rule.
The survey is just one part of an eight
part survey that will look at each of
the aspects of gambling and slot
machines – and the results will be
published in the New England Gaming
Update for the fourth year. The study
looks at Massachusetts, Rhode Island,
Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine,
Vermont and New York – and how they
spend their money at Foxwoods and
Mohegan Sun, as well as Rhode Island’s
VLT parlors and Bangor’s recently opened
slot machine casino.
