Experts Agree: No Table Games, No Real
Revenue
The
experts are in agreement that without
adding table games to the newly added
slot machines, the casinos in
Philadelphia will not be able to compete
with Atlantic City. They say that people
don’t travel miles to play a slot
machine, but they do travel for a
destination – and they say that Philly
is not the destination that Atlantic
City is.
The ink isn’t even dry on the slot
machines yet and many are saying that
the state made an error in just allowing
slots instead of table games as well.
They say they are competing with the
boardwalk, and the table games, and the
atmosphere that Atlantic City has to
offer. They say that the people who come
to vacation in Philadelphia are not
looking to play slot machines, they are
coming for history.
They say that the slot machines will
bring in money, and that no one is
disputing how good for the state they
will be. However, they say that it just
isn’t enough to compete. They cite the
recent report that shows that although
slot machine revenue is down in Atlantic
City, table games revenue is up. Which
means more people than ever are going
there to play the table games, and that
they need that kind of a draw.
They also say that recent studies are
showing that those with household
incomes in the lower ranges are more
likely to play the slot machines, and
those with higher incomes will play the
table games. They say that Philly needs
to attract that higher income range, as
those are the people who will spend
money in the city and restaurants, etc.
once they are done gambling. Those in
the lower income bracket will play the
slot machines and leave.
