PA Casinos Bring in More than $1 Billion
The
Pennsylvania casinos have brought in
more than $1 billion in slot machine
wagers since the first one opened last
November. According to the PA Gaming
Control Board, patrons bet $1.06 billion
and won $960.8 million on the slot
machines. That ultimately gives $267.6
million to the state – which includes
the 55% tax on gross revenue and
licensing fees.
The Gambling Board has said that the
amount of money that the casinos’ slot
machines have brought in has already
exceeded the expenses that had gone out.
The first casino opened in November in
Wilkes-Barre, and two more have opened
since that time. In December, the state
gave out 11 slot machine licenses, and
the Presque Isle Downs plan on being
open later this month.
The Meadows Racetrack & Casino is
opening this spring if all goes well,
and they have already started hiring for
the 400+ jobs that the slot machine
casino will bring in. Experts say that
if this is any indication of the kind of
money hat they are going to be bringing
in when all of the slot machine casinos
are open, they will end up having much
higher slot machine revenues than
originally estimated.
