Are Slot Machine Paybacks Lower?
Some
people believe that the slot machine
paybacks are actually lower than they
were years ago – that the numbers are
just not adding up to what they seem
like they used to be. When asked, many
felt that indeed, they had been losing
more money than they remember losing in
the past, but most people chalked it up
to just bad luck at the slot machines.
Some say that there are certain times of
the year when you will win more than
others – that if you went at the end of
the year – say Halloween on, that it was
harder to win until after the first of
the year -that the slot machines are
notoriously “tight” at that time of
year. They say that it is that time of
year that the casinos have to start
worrying about taxes that they were
going to have to pay, and so they kept
more than they gave.
Experts say that overall payback
percentages have gone down over the past
five years, but that it does not have as
much to do with the casinos changing the
slot machines payback as it does with
the changing of the slot machines that
are actually on the casino floor.
Many more people prefer the lower
denomination slot machines than they did
years ago, and they are taking up more
space on the casino floor than they did
before. Because of that, the overall
payback percentages have gone down.
There is also the fact that the casinos
have many more of their higher
denomination players now at their lower
denomination slot machines. They are
switching because they like the video
slot machines, but that means that it
changes the paybacks as well.
