United Kingdom Considering Offshore
Online Casinos
The
United Kingdom has been wondering how
they can attract offshore online casinos
to them, and they think they may have
come up with a pretty decent idea. Their
finance minister has decided that they
should award them a British License and
give them fewer taxes.
It would work with the new Gambling Act
which enables them under law to get a
British license starting this September,
but they would have to pay higher taxes.
This would change that for them. John
O’Reilly, the head of online gambling at
Ladbrokes says that he thinks it is a
good deal, but is waiting to see the
bottom line. He says that if the tax
rate were really less than 3% that they
would probably sign up.
Finance Minster Gordon Brown is
proposing the Remote Gaming Duty next
month, and it would give them lower
taxes to the tune of two or three
percent on their revenues. He thinks
that with this deal, they will be able
to bring in online gambling firms that
do well – including PartyPoker, 888, as
well as other overseas gambling sites.
This way they will be included under
British law, and they won’t have to pay
extra taxes like the actual land based
casinos have to.
