Andrew Windsor Knows His Jackpots
Andrew Windsor is a man who knows what
he likes and knows what he knows. He is
the current director of e-commerce at
SMG and tells a great story about how he
once played backgammon with Omar Sharif
at the Monte Carlo Casino when he was
18. However, that could not prepare him
for the life he was to lead.
It did give him a love of casinos that
has stayed with him today, however. Once
done with showing tourists the Monte
Carlo Casino, he moved on to being a
house backgammon player at a local
casino near the University of
Manchester. He made good money, but is
very happy with the move to SMG instead.
But how does a casino lover end up
working with television ratings and
advertising revenues, and what did
Windsor know about turning it all
around. Well, for starters, you have to
take a gamble and hope that things will
work, and no one is better suited for
taking on a gamble than Andrew Windsor.
He parlayed his interest into online
casinos for the company, and now they
have more than 200,000 monthly users –
many of whom don’t even really play they
just come to talk to other people. If
they win, it is just an added bonus. The
company is still wondering what to make
of the move as they feel they are a
gaming company, not really a gambling
company. They are also trying to get a
more journalistic flavor, and have yet
to marry the two extremes.
When people log on now, they are getting
a mixture of the two and so far it seems
to be working. Their new Chief
Executive, Rob Woodward, may not like
the way it is going, it remains to be
seen – but if you ask Windsor, he is
only getting started.
