Gambling Myths

There are many beliefs out there as to what is true and what isn’t when it comes to gambling and slot machines. According to the Michigan Department of Community Health there are actually several different myths out there that many people actually believe to be true.

One of the biggest myths will have you on a quest for that all elusive “loose” slot machine at every casino you go to. The problem is that with a myth like this one, there is a small amount of truth in the fact that some slot machines pay out more than others. This is not to say that there is one machine that will pay out much more than others – they are all going to take the lion’s share of your money.

Some people think that the odds are something that can be manipulated as well. While it is true that each slot machine has different odds, which are posted on the front of each machine, the odds are still stacked against you no matter how you play. People also think that if you have the right system you can beat the casino – no chance of that – sorry.

Many think that if a slot machine hasn’t hit in awhile that it is due to hit. Sorry, they don’t work that way. No matter how long you sit there, you have the same chance of it hitting each time you hit the button as you did when you first got there.

One last one that I would like to end with is the idea that the casino managers determine who gets paid out when and how much. In the overall picture, yes, they help determine what the payout rate is for each slot machine and then it is approved by the gaming commission. However, they cannot sit there and change the payouts at will – that would be illegal and almost impossible.
