at Aqueduct
Delaware
North Cos. is still working on their
plans to bring slot machines to the
Aqueduct racetrack in New York City. The
group has been meeting with various
state officials, and making visits to
the track – as well as conducting
architectural surveys – all in an
attempt to finalize their plans to bring
in the slot machines.
Their workers spent last week updating
architectural drawings and collecting
information that would enable them to
finish the slot machine plan. Once they
have that completed they can move
forward with their attempts to get
zoning and permits done.
The company was chosen to bring in and
run the slot machines at the track last
year, while the New York Racing
Association was chosen to stay on to run
the track itself. The problem is that
although they seem to be moving forward
with their plans to bring in the slot
machines they have not signed the
necessary paperwork with the state that
would allow them to do that. They cannot
start construction until they sign the
memorandum of understanding.
Plus, with them not having signed that
deal, and it starting to look like slot
machines will come to neighbor Belmont
Park, there is an additional competition
that could be going on that was not
initially expected. The biggest hurdle
right now is deciding when the state
would make the payment to the state that
they said they would when they got the
slot machine bid. They currently owe
them $370 million.
