Machine News
Slot
machines are consistently in the news –
who is getting them, who wants them, who
can’t have them. So today we thought
we’d give you a little sampling of some
of the news out there today.
In Maryland, Laurel Park is appealing
the decision that says that they cannot
have slot machines. The group was
expected to pay $28.5 million with their
application for slot machines, but put
the money in escrow instead of the
state’s hands and now the state says
that they can’t qualify for the slot
machine license. The group says that
they didn’t give the money for slot
machines because there was nothing in
the rules that said that if they did not
get the slot machines that they would
get their money back.
In Baltimore County, Councilman T. Bryan
McIntire has proposed a zoning amendment
in the state which would keep slot
machines fro coming to the Maryland
State Fairgrounds. The state has already
ruled out the location, but McIntire
wants it made official that they cannot
bring in slot machines. He says that his
constituents don’t want slot machines or
the crime that they bring with them near
them, and want some sort of amendment
that keeps them slot machine free.
The Baltimore Development Corporation is
working on their own legislation to see
if they can bring in slot machines. They
say that the city needs zoning changes
that would allow the slot machine parlor
to be build near the M&T Bank Stadium.
They say that they are moving forward
with the slot machines, but they want to
be sure to have taken all steps
necessary before they break ground.
