Slot Machines
There has
been some confusion in Massachusetts
regarding a certain slot machine, some
are not sure of the joke that has been
carried on in a very public arena lately
– but it all has to do with slot
machines and who wants them and who
doesn’t.
It started with Massachusetts House
Speaker Robert DeLeo handing Governor
Deval Patrick a slot machine during a
St. Patrick’s Day breakfast in Boston.
DeLeo is very much in favor of bringing
slot machines to racetracks to increase
revenue in the state, so it was the
perfect joke as far as he and the
governor were concerned.
But the slot machine is actually the
same slot machine that Rep. John Keenan
gave to DeLeo last week at another St.
Patrick’s breakfast at Finz. He then
took it to Boston to give to the
governor. But instead of that being the
end of the story, the slot machine is
actually more involved than that.
The slot machine came from The Magic
Parlor where is has been in their
basement for years. Lynne Montague,
Keenan’s aide was looking for a slot
machine as part of a gag and followed up
on a rumor that it might be there. Then
several people later, it ended up in
Keenan’s hands. He then took it home,
where his children decided they wanted
to keep it and asked their father to ask
for it back from the governor.
So Keenan asked for it back, but the
governor had left it at the breakfast,
and now the slot machine is missing.
