Atlantic City
has Even Less Money
It is
no secret that Atlantic City has been hit
hard over the past year. They have had
to deal with an economy that has really
not been kind to them. They have had to
deal with the influx of online casinos
taking their business from them. They
have also had to deal with the
competition that comes from the
surrounding states who are all adding in
slot machines. And now they are dealing
with
Pennsylvania
who is adding table games to their slot
machines.
And as
if all of that were not enough to make
you pack up and go home, they had to
deal with crippling snowstorms that kept
people at home and snuggled up in bed as
opposed to coming to play at the
casinos. This year in February they are
showing a 13.5% decline over 2008 and a
15.7% decrease over 2009.
One of
their latest problems is snow. This year
February was the snowiest month every
recorded in the city’s history – and
they got hit with three big storms. In
some cases people could literally not
get out of their houses to come out to
the casinos, and even if they could,
they probably would not have come to the
casino anyway. Only those that really
lived within walking distance had the
easiest time of getting there and if you
have ever been to Atlantic City, you know that these are not
people who can afford to waste money in
a slot machine.
All of
the casinos felt the hit, and many said
that this was going to be tough to come
back from. They say that they hope for a
fruitful summer, that perhaps the
economy will turn and that
Atlantic City
will become a playground for slot
machine and table game gamblers again.
