Push for Arlington
Park
Again
The
question of whether or not slot machines
are coming to
Arlington
Park is never a closed
book. You can see this in the number of
times that they try to bring them in.
Time after time they come to the state
with another plan to bring in the slot
machines and it keeps getting shot down.
It doesn’t seem to matter though, as
they always have another plan waiting in
the wings.
The
latest plan for slot machines would
bring them into
Arlington
Park and the other horse
racing tracks in the state. The plan
would not only bring in slot machines to
the state, but it would also bring in
$31 billion worth of construction jobs.
The idea is that the money that would
come from the slot machines would be
able to fund these jobs, as opposed to
their first plan.
Initially they left it up to the various
communities to decide whether or not
they wanted slot machines. They expected
many of them to vote for them, and that
money would go towards the public works
project. However, with most of them
deciding not to bring in the slot
machines it left them in a bit of a bind
money wise. Instead, now the lawmakers
want to make it legal for the horse
racing tracks to bring in slot machines
and it would only be up to the tracks as
to whether they brought them in or not.
They
said that the slot machine revenue would
do a lot of good for the state
construction plan, but it would also
bring in thousands of much needed jobs.
They all believe that this is a much
better plan than bringing slot machines
to neighborhood bars, where they could
not really be regulated and there would
be no one to watch out for the problem
gambler. As the state already has to
keep an eye on the gambling at the
tracks, this would not be adding that
much more to their responsibilities.
