Australians
Want Slot Machine Limits
According to a recent survey,
Australian’s want their government to
have lower betting limits. In fact,
eight out of ten Tasmanians said that
they would like to see a max bet on slot
machines to be $1.00. They also said
that in addition to that they want the
time that people are permitted to use
the slot machines limited to certain
hours – shorter than what is currently
allowed.
It is
no secret that Australia has a
lot of slot machines and a lot of slot
machine players – as well as addicts in
their country. This is not the first
time that citizens have asked them to
cut back the number of slot machines
that were allowed, and have asked for
reductions in the amount of money that
can be spent at one. This poll of 1,000
voters was taken by Enterprise Market
and Research Services. It was
commissioned by the Our Island Our
Voices election alliance who does not
want to see the way that slot machine
gambling is set up to continue. They
have a supporter in Senator Nick
Xenophon who has made it very clear that
he is against slot machine gambling in
the country.
Right
now you can bet up to $5 per spin on the
slot machines and they say that this is
entirely too much money. They say that
you can lose up to $600 an hour, which
is the “average family wage” in the
country. They are afraid that those that
cannot contain themselves will spend all
of their money and put their families
into financial ruin. They found that of
the people polled, more than 80% wanted
to see the limits put on the slot
machines.
Only
10% of those surveyed said that they do
not want stricter controls, and one can
only assume that the government doesn’t
either as they stand to make $90 million
a year on slot machine revenues.
