Bingo Bosses
are the Bullies
In
Alabama it has become commonplace to
look at the police and the governor’s
task force as “bullies” because they
have insisted that the laws regarding
slot machines be followed. They have
made it very clear that slot machines
are illegal in Alabama, the courts have
upheld the law and the rulings, and
there is no other way around it. The
confusion that many say that they are
experiencing has to do with the offering
of bingo in the state.
The
law states that bingo can be offered,
but that it is the paper kind that you
mark off when your number is called.
Many establishments in Alabama have taken that
bingo term rather loosely and said that
electronic bingo machines are legal as
well. The only problem with that is that
these machines are commonly referred to
as Class III slot machines, and slot
machines are illegal in the state of Alabama outside of a
legal casino.
Once
the government started cracking down on
the illegal slot machines, other
legislators within the state tried to
say that they were acting illegally by
seizing the machines and closing down
the businesses. But the problem with
this is that there is nothing in the law
of the state that says they can have
slot machines, and this is why the
courts supported the governor and said
that the slot machines had to go.
Then
the people of Alabama started saying
that the governor and the police were
nothing but a bunch of bullies, and that
they should leave the bingo palaces
alone. Well, if they weren’t breaking
the laws of
Alabama
they would have no problem doing that.
Instead, it is their job to ensure that
all the residents of the state of
Alabama
follow the rules and laws of the state –
not just some of them.
