Slot Machines
as Collectables
People
collect all kinds of things – and slot
machines just happen to be one of them.
They are easily one of the most unique
collections that are out there, and they
are probably one of the more expensive
as well. A slot machine collection can
go for hundreds of thousands of dollars,
if not millions – and it all depends on
the age and the type of slot machine
that you offer.
One
such collector is Phil Frey. Frey has
been collecting slot machines for years
and has found that each one is more
unique than the last. They are fun to
play around with, and they catch a
pretty penny at auction. He has some
slot machines worth much more than they
were manufactured for and even what he
paid for them. There are those that were
created by Superior Confection that used
to pay out in candy – gum balls – which
is how they got around them being
illegal. The slot machines are from the
1920s and 1930s. One of their slot
machines was just sold last month for
$37,500 and Frey says that Gus Snyder –
the owner of the company that made them
– would have found that hard to believe.
Frey
said that he loves looking at all the
different kinds of slot machines that
are out there, and owns 17 different
types of the games himself. He says has
them in his basement – which makes his
house definitely the fun place to play.
He says that since slot machines were
invented in 1899 there have been tons of
different ideas as to how they should
look, and they are still changing their
style today.
