County
Clerk
Apologizes for Behavior
According to a recent report by Phil
Williams, Davidson County Clerk John
Arriola was allowing slot machines to be
played by his workers on their lunch
break on St.
Patrick’s Day. Williams was able to get
into the break room somehow and see the
employees playing the slot machines, and
when he was asked to leave he refused.
Williams then got into an altercation
with Chief Deputy Clerk Joey Workman
who, after allegedly asking Williams
five or six times to leave, allegedly
started shoving him out the door.
Williams told him he was on public
property and they could not make him
leave, but Workman managed to shove him
out the door. When Arriola appeared on
the scene, he allegedly said that there
was no harm done and that they weren’t
breaking any laws. He said that they
were just trying to have some fun on St.
Patty’s Day. He wasn’t sure what the
reporter was trying to get accomplished
by coming into the break room of the
company.
However, he did apologize for the
situation. He said that everything that
was going on there was completely legal
and ethical, but that he should still
not have allowed it to happen. He said
that he has suspended Workman without
pay for two days for pushing the
reporter, and has suspended Kelly Farmer
who brought the slot machines to work.
Police said that no laws were broken,
and that Farmer was just bringing in the
slot machines to test them for his side
business. He paid the employees to play,
and then paid out $25 in cash prizes for
those who won.
