Something is
Fishy
If
you didn’t want people poking around in
your business, would you put yourself
out there? This is seemingly a simple
question, yet there are some that don’t
quite understand that concept. There is
a group called Let Ohio Vote that is
trying to keep slot machines from being
legalized in the state of Ohio. They have been very vocal in their
attempts to keep slot machines illegal,
and have been on the front lines of the
battle for a long time. However, they
have a funding issue that has not been
made clear. Some wonder where all of
their financing to battle these slot
machines has come from, and the group
refuses to disclose it.
The
Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner,
has now subpoenaed the main people
behind the anti slot machine group in
order to find out where their funding is
coming from and to make sure that they
are in compliance with state campaign
finance rules. However, the slot machine
group then countered by asking the state
Supreme Court to intervene and stop
Brunner from prying. They said that it
is not her place to ask for that
information and that they are in
complete compliance.
However, now many are wondering why, if
they are in complete compliance, they
wouldn’t show their records? By
attempting to block any attempts to see
who has been depositing what, the group
is making themselves look guilty. They
said that she doesn’t have the authority
to ask them anything, and basically told
her to back off.
Brunner said that she expected that they
would run to the Supreme Court again to
intervene. She said that the law
requires disclosure, and this slot
machine group has not complied with the
law. They said that they think they are
just asking for this information because
they are fighting against the slot
machines, but experts say that they will
want to give up that information because
the longer they don’t the more it looks
like they have something to hide.
