Monmouth Hopes to Make Things Better 

The horse racing industry has long been saying that they need slot machines in order to be able to compete with the needs of their gamblers. They say that every time a new casino opens they have to fight that much harder to get any money that they do get because people are off and playing at their slot machines instead of watching the horses race. This argument has gone on for a very long time, and it isn’t getting any older as far as they are concerned. 

They say that those horse racing tracks that have already been able to get slot machines have an advantage over those that don’t because they can offer higher purses than those without slot machines. Well, Monmouth Park is tired of trying to fight for slot machines. They say that if they are not going to be able to get the slot machines, then they are going to have to make some changes in the racing department. 

They are cutting down the number of races that they are offering so that they can increase the amount of the purse that they can pay out. Instead of spreading it across several races, they will cut the number of races thereby reducing the amount of money that they have to pay out. They say that without the addition of slot machines it will be impossible to get the larger purses any other way. They have decided to cut their racing dates down to 50 days so that they can offer $1 million on each of those days.
