Oh What a
Tangled Web We Weave…
With
slot machines you are either for them or
against them. That is really how it
seems to stack up.
You are either in the camp that
says that the slot machines will bring
in millions of dollars for much needed
improvements – like education and social
services – that they will not be able to
afford otherwise. Or you are on the side
of being against the slot machines,
where you find that the slot machines
are an evil that your state can do
without and that by bringing them in you
are hurting your residents, taxing the
poor and uneducated, and tempting your
addicts.
But
what if you are against them but are
tempted by the money that they would
bring in? This is the case with Rep.
Beverly Rodeschin. She is against the
slot machines and has been for a long
time. However, now that they are
tempting her with the amount of money
that would be able to go to social
services she is rethinking her position.
And who wouldn’t?
There
are too many people out there right now
that need the money that the social
services can give them. But does that
mean that they should legalize the slot
machines? Those that are opposed say
that the money that would come in for
the slot machines is not worth the money
that would go out toward helping those
that have addictions. They say that the
poor can ill afford the slot machines as
they would end up destroying their
state.
