Texas
Needs to Say No to Slot Machines
There
are many within the great state of
Texas
that want slot machines to be legalized.
They argue that the people within their
state that want to gamble on the slot
machines are still doing it, except that
Texas is not
getting any of the money for it.
Instead, they are looking at that money
going across state borders to the tune
of millions of dollars a year. They
argue that the money could be used to
shore up their state budget and enable
them to afford programs that they cannot
right now.
This
is a long running argument in the state,
because those that are opposed to slot
machines, are fine with them taking
their money across the state line. They
say that not only do they not have to
deal with the problems that come from
offering slot machines in their state –
like the crime that inevitably follows
places like that – but they also don’t
have to worry about supporting slot
machine addiction in their state.
They
say that the slot machines are known as
the “crack cocaine” of the gambling
world for a reason. They say that the
games are set up so that people feel
like they are going to win, and so they
keep putting more and more money into
them, and every now and then they are
rewarded with a little bit of money.
It is just enough to keep them
hooked.
Some
think that they should allow slot
machines just so they can improve their
schools. The legislators say that there
has to be a better way to make that
happen, because they cannot in good
conscience allow slot machine gambling
addicts to fund their schools. They say
that if there is more money needed for
schools, then that money has to be cut
from somewhere else instead.
