Charities Want Slot Machines
Maryland
is having all kinds of slot machine
issues – and they don’t seem to be
getting any better. It is not enough for
the state to bring in the slot machines,
but they are having a hard time getting
them to the point that they are actually
up and running. So while they are trying
to get slot machines functioning, there
are those that want to start talking
about table games. The governor says
that he doesn’t want to talk about table
games until the slot machines are up and
running – but at this rate who knows how
long that is going to take.
Then
you have another group who wants slot
machines at the various charities that
are in the state, so they are splitting
their focus yet again. The charities in Worcester County
have tried to get slot machines
legalized for their businesses for a
long time. When the law was passed in
1987 allowing for slot machines to be
run at fraternal, religious and war
veterans groups Worcester County
asked to be removed from the list of
places as they did not want that element
at that time.
However, they have now come to regret
that decision and want to be able to
offer the slot machines to their
patrons. For three years now the county
has been trying to get slot machines
back, but Senate President Thomas Miller
refuses to let the bill get through to
the floor so that it can be voted on. It
is tough to know why he has such
opposition to the bill, considering
everyone else is already allowed the
slot machines. Representatives are
hopeful that this year they will be able
to change his mind.
